turn one image into a brand kit

from the episode: OpenAI says its ai solved over 100 maths problems. now what? | LAB 0005

Lenny's AI Builders - LAB 0005

i gave Astra one image and asked for a brand kit. it came back with a whole matching set.

i didn't actually tell it to go and create all of this stuff. i just said: i want you to create a brand kit for me.

and i was really impressed with how it was able to capture the style of that one reference image.

why it matters

you probably post in more than one place. X, YouTube, Threads, a newsletter.

every one of them wants a different size. rebuilding your look from zero each time is slow, and it never quite matches.

one good image can do most of that work for you.

what you get

three useful things:

  • one look everywhere. every asset comes from the same image, so they match.
  • less back and forth. you start from a picture you already like, not a vague mood word.
  • every size in one go. wide, square and vertical versions of the same idea.

the real example

i made the intro image for Lenny's AI Builders with Astra and native image generation. we went back and forth several times until i was happy with the text and the style.

then i told Astra to create a brand kit using that image for reference.

it came back with a stack of matching pieces - the "less scrolling" art, a vertical version and more that i can use across X, YouTube, Threads and my newsletter.

try it

  1. pick one image you already love - your logo, intro card or best thumbnail.
  2. name the assets you need and where each one will live.
  3. attach the image and paste the prompt below.
  4. look at the whole set side by side.
  5. check every word, logo, face and crop before you use any of it.

copy this prompt

this is the prompt i read out at 9:24. swap the three formats for whatever you need.

Use my attached brand references to make a matching thumbnail, channel banner and podcast cover. Keep the same colours, type style, face and visual theme. Adapt the layout for each format. Use native image generation for the artwork. Check every word, logo, face and crop. Show me the complete set together and flag anything that still needs my judgment.

you'll know it worked when

you put the whole set side by side and it looks like one brand.

every word is spelled right. the logos are real. the face still looks like you. nothing important gets cut off in any size.

a bad result: a generic stock look, a misspelled word, or a face that's almost you but not quite. fix that one asset, keep the rest.

limits and dates

LAB 0005 went public on YouTube on 24 September 2026 (Perth time).

the brand kit was real work i did before the episode, not a new test made for it. some words, logos and likeness still needed checking and fixing.

these are image files, not layered design files you can edit piece by piece. no time or money saving was measured.

the news in this LAB is as it stood when i recorded, before GPT-6 Sol and Opus 5.5 launched. some of it was still rumour.

the rest of this LAB

  • OpenAI's maths claim. OpenAI says a new internal model solved more than 100 long-standing open maths problems. it's now working with an independent advisory group of mathematicians. my take: labs can throw thousands of agents at a hard problem and expect one to crack it. if your sense of purpose comes from solving it with your brain alone, that's a rude awakening. i'm excited anyway - humans are still steering.
  • GPT-6 Sol and Aeon. both were still reports when i recorded. i was on 40% of my limits after starting the day at 100%. i need a model as smart as Astra that doesn't burn my limits like Astra.
  • Opus 5.5. Anthropic was reportedly stealth testing it. on eligible Max plans you can use up to 50% of your weekly usage on Fable. it's like paying for a $200 a month plan and only getting to use half of it.
  • Grok 4.7. SpaceXAI says it's a notable improvement over Grok 4.6 at the same price and speed. i tried it in Cursor for my agentic video editor and didn't notice much of a difference.
  • Muse and Shopify. they're teaming up on agentic checkout with Shop Pay. the bigger idea is AX - agent experience. if you can't hand your app's link to an agent and say "go sign up for me", you've got shit AX.
  • Qwen-Image-2.1. an open-weights image model that can run on your own hardware, if your machine can handle it. it's basically a free option next to GPT Images 2.5 or Nano Banana Pro. i'm not saying it's better.
